On September 17th, 1979 a body was found by arrowhead hunters in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The remains were partially buried and skeletal. There were signs of animal activity and some of the remains were missing. His skull was found just 20 yards away from three .410 shells though no weapon was found. Cause of death is unknown.

Found near the body were the remains of a large mixed-breed dog. He had a blue comb and a dime in one of this front pockets. He was wearing grey-brown Dickies with a 32.5 inseam. The belt he wore was brown leather with a repeating “O” design in the center of the leather, 1 3/4 in. width, with a brass buckle. He wore a pearl snap cowboy shirt that was tan with brown checked design, size 14.5/32. Under that shirt he wore a white t-shirt. He had on Fruit of the Loom underwear. He had on red or purple socks and work boots that were size 7, ankle high. He was likely 25-45 years old and Native. He had coarse, black hair. He is estimated to be 5’8 and 145lbs. He’d been deceased for 3 months. Dental and DNA are available for comparison. He is #UP4889 in NaMus and known as Muskogee County John Doe.
