Larvilla Doris Thomas was murdered in Avant on November 20, 1980 when two masked gunmen entered the store she worked in and attempted to rob it. Both Doris and the store’s owner were shot, though Doris was pronounced dead on scene. It’s believed that one of the robbers was also shot during the struggle.
