Carla Robinson Dunbar was working the morning shift at the A-1 Check Cashers at 2109 N. Cincinnati Ave. in Tulsa, Oklahoma the morning of December 5th, 1995 when two men walked in planning to rob the business. They poured gas into the money well and told her to hand over the cash. Carla handed over $1,000. The suspects then lit the money well on fire.

Carla suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 45% of her body, mostly her head, neck and shoulders. Her condition was touch and go for many days until she passed away from her injuries on December 21st, 1995 in the hospital.

Carla was born on August 5th, 1960 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she was 35 when she was killed. She attended McLain High School. She was a single mother to two children.
