Marylyn Teresa Theriault was found murdered in Sayre on August 7, 1982. She was twenty-two years old.
Marylyn was from Nashua, New Hampshire. Reports indicate that people last saw her alive at an Amarillo, Texas truck stop the night before they found her. We don’t know the circumstances of how they found Marylyn, but we do know that her death was brutal.
From the circumstances, we can assume that Marylyn had possibly been engaging in sex work at the time of her murder. Authorities found her in the Red River, under a bridge on I-40. They discovered her unclothed and with signs of either intercourse or sexual assault shortly before her death. They found duct tape wrapped around her face and her ankles bound by the same tape. The tape around her left wrist suggests that someone either bound her wrists at one point or attempted to do so.
Her cause of death was asphyxiation by the duct tape wrapped around her face; she had also been strangled via ligature. All indications are that she fought her killer for her life.
No one has ever been charged with the murder of Marylyn Teresa Theriault.
