On March 15, 1976 Lynda Law Jones and her 18-month-old son disappeared from their Midwest City home. Her son would later be found at a near by grocery store, unharmed and simply wandering around the isles. Lynda’s eyeglasses that she could barely see without would also be found in the same grocery store parking lot, but no other sign of Lynda was found at the store.

Unfortunately, eight days after her disappearance, a couple who were taking a walk would discover Lynda- laying face down in a ditch. She had been strangled to death.

Due to the condition of her body when she was found, police believe that she was most likely killed soon after she was taken.

In the years since her murder, many theories about what happened to Lynda have been put forth. Right before she went missing, her husband, Garry Jones, had just been released from federal prison. He had been serving a term for drug trafficking, and while there he witnessed the murder of another inmate; Garry had then testified in the trial as a witness to the murder. So, one theory had been that Lynda had been murdered as retribution against Garry for being a witness in the trial. Another theory is that the people Garry had been involved with in trafficking drugs had taken and killed Lynda.

In any event, her family has always felt that Garry probably knew who had killed her- if he himself had not been involved. Lynda and Garry’s marriage was not known to have been the best. Garry’s brother Wayne lived with them and was a constant source of contention in the marriage. Then there was Garry’s prison sentence. The morning that Lynda went missing, there are differing reports on whether either brother was actually at work or not, as both of them worked for the same company at the time. Another thing that Lynda’s family found odd is that, though the family had just moved into the house they were renting days before Lynda disappeared, while she was still being looked for Garry and Wayne rented a carpet cleaner and went in to clean the carpets within the entire home.

What happened to Lynda, is not something she deserved, nor has she deserved for her murderer to have been walking free to live their lives for over forty years. She was twenty years old when she died. Its important here to note that what happened to Lynda, its how her story ended, but its not her whole story. She was a mother, a daughter, and a sister. She was beautiful and she was loved.
