Someone last saw Leah Mahseet, 16, at the gas station on the north end of Geary, Oklahoma, at 9:10 p.m. on September 14, 1997, about 100 yards from her house. Soon after she was reported missing.

A farmer found Leah’s body in a field near Greenfield, Oklahoma, on September 20, 1997. She was not recognizable and needed to be identified with dental records.

Investigators determined that Leah died from blunt force trauma to the head, with her skull broken in eight places.

Investigators cleared previous persons of interest after DNA evidence found on Leah’s body did not match them. Additionally, they discovered that key witnesses who testified under immunity were lying.

People believe someone targeted Leah because of her Native American heritage. She had Arapaho, Comanche, and Cheyenne ancestry.

Leah has many family members, loved ones, and friends who miss her deeply. She was a trusting and compassionate girl with a bright future.
