Isjanna McKay James was only 8-months-old when she was shot in a drive-by shooting on the 4200 block of NE 16th in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Miraculously, Isjanna survived that injury for 10 years, bringing many people love and joy. Isjanna died from her injuries on April 29th, 2017. She was 10.
On February 26th, 2007, at 2:30 am, two shots were fired into the home of Isjanna’s grandmother, Garvenia James. It was quickly discovered that Isjanna had been shot in the head. She was taken to the hospital where it was found that Isjanna had been shot in the top of the head and the bullet exited through her cheek/jaw area. Isjanna’s mother was also present at the home when the shooting occurred. Everyone in the home was asleep at the time of the shooting. The area the family resided in was known for drug activity but not for violent crime. There are no known suspects.
Isjanna was born May 29th, 2006. She was a bubbly baby and adored by her family. After the shooting Isjanna spent several years in a children’s assisted living center before returning home to live with her grandmother. She was a wheelchair user and loved music, most especially classical music. Isjanna is dearly missed.
