Fenisha Washington
Date Found: April 27, 2001
Location: Lawton, Oklahoma
Investigating Agency: Lawton Police Department
In April of 2001 Fenisha Cormele Washington was an 18-year-old single mother expecting a baby boy she planned to name Anquan. She worked at Wendy’s in Lawton and had plans to attend Cameron University. On the morning of April 27, 2001, Fenisha called her mother for a ride to Cameron to pick up financial aid paperwork. They never made that trip.
Fenisha’s boyfriend stated that the two had gotten into an argument the night before, and that he left their apartment at 2110 Lindy on the morning of her death. When he and a friend returned to the apartment, they found Fenisha’s body on the floor, with her one-year-old daughter crying on top of her. Fenisha had been shot five times.
Two months after the murder of Fenisha and Anquan, a suspect was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Second-Degree Murder. It was later determined this suspect was not involved in the murder and the charges were later downgraded to Accessory After the Fact. Eventually, those charges were dropped altogether, and this suspect’s boyfriend became the new suspect. However, due to insufficient evidence and witnesses changing their statements or refusing to cooperate, all charges were dropped in December 2003.
It has been reported that the weapon used in the murders was recovered from the area of NE Rogers Lane and Cache Creek Bridge.
There has been no movement on this case released to the public since 2003. Left behind to mourn the loss of Fenisha and Anquan are Fenisha’s mother Helen Washington, her sister Tangela Shrubs, her half-sister Cynthia Drake, her daughter Fenicia, and many friends.
