Charles was a preacher at the time of his murder in Wagoner, Oklahoma. He was in town to preach at a revival and to visit his youngest daughter. He lived in Tennessee but visited often.

On February 28th, 1994, Charles’s family arrived to his apartment and found him murdered. There were no signs of a struggle and no indication of robbery.
