18-year-old college student Brittany Phillips talked to her mother on the phone September 27th, 2004. It was the last time her mother spoke to her. 3 days later an officer went to Phillip’s apartment to check on her and discovered her body. Brittany had been raped and strangled.

Brittany had left Tulsa Community College with a friend that day. She dropped her friend off at her apartment complex at 51st and Memorial and drove home. There were indications of a struggle in Brittany’s apartment and police were able to pull DNA samples from blood left in the apartment. Investigators are still unclear on how the suspect gained access to Brittany’s apartment.

Brittany’s mother, Dr. Maggie Zingman, has organized many “caravans”, cross country trips in a vehicle wrapped with her daughter’s story. She continues to fight for Brittany and advocate for DNA laws to help families get justice.
