Angela Jean Mihm Monhollen missed her late shift at the nursing home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on August 6th, 1989, at 11 p.m. She left her home at 4637 N. St. Louis Avenue around 1030 pm. She ran out of gas on the Gilcrease Expressway east of Harvard Avenue and reportedly tried to hitchhike. Someone reported her missing the next day, August 7th. That same day investigators discovered her purse on the road just a few miles from her truck.
On August 14th, 1989, a city employee discovered partially decomposed remains in a ditch at 7:30 a.m. The remains were found in high grass on the east side of Yale Avenue near 36th Street, just 3 miles from where her truck had been left. The body was ID’d as Angela soon after through forensics and tattoos. Investigators believe she may have been strangled, although the cause of death remains undetermined. They found her purse just two blocks from her body.
Angela was 23 and a mother to 4 children. She had married young but was no longer with her husband and was dating someone else at the time. Angela was born in Indiana and had moved to Tulsa in recent years. She was the youngest of 7 children. Angela dreamed of becoming a nurse and was actively pursuing that goal when someone murdered her.
