The remains of a full term infant male were found in Sallisaw on February 6, 1988.
The child was found by a man who had been searching for cans. He found the remains in a ditch just east of the Little Sallisaw Creek bridge. An autopsy would later conclude that the child was stillborn upon birth, but that he had been full term. When found, the child had been laying on two towels, one white and one green, and had been covered by a pink towel that had been folded in half. The placenta and umbilical cord were found near the body. It is believed that he had been out there for about a day before being found.
Also found with the body was a box of diapers, and several soiled diapers that were a size medium. Which led investigators to believe that whomever had left this child in the ditch also likely had another, older child at home. At the time he was found, investigators had said they were following many leads, however this child remains unidentified.
The infant was about 18 inches long, and about four pounds. He was Native American with black hair and brown eyes. It is unknown if DNA is available in his case.
