On May 3, 1952, Charles Curtis Nestell, a 23-year-old Apache tribal member, was killed in a hit-and-run along US-81 on the south edge of Chickasha, Oklahoma. He died from his injuries in the Chickasha hospital that evening.

According to authorities, the only description witnesses could give of the vehicle was a convertible. No further details or suspect vehicle descriptions were ever confirmed.
