Date: March 29, 2022
Location: Oklahoma City
Investigating Agency: Oklahoma City Police Department
Darian Lamar Norris, Jr. (DJ) was only 16 years old when he was fatally shot in the courtyard of the Bennett Ridge Apartments, located at 8201 N Rockwell Avenue in NW Oklahoma City.
According to DJ’s friends, a group of teenagers were hanging around outside the apartment complex. Shortly after midnight, some of the group began to attempt to break into vehicles. The owner of a silver sedan spotted them, gave chase, and opened fire.
The boys all scattered when the gunshots rang out. Unfortunately, DJ was struck in the chest and left to die. Despite many young people being present when the shooting occurred, none of them remained at the scene to provide any information. Neighbors reported hearing 6-7 shots before officers arrived. Some witnesses describe the shooter as being a Hispanic male. It has been reported that investigators were given a name, but there is no way to confirm that. No arrests have been made, and the case remains open and unsolved.
DJ was a bright, well-loved student with a 3.0 GPA, a multi-sport athlete, and a free-spirited, generous friend to all who knew him. DJ’s mother is offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of her son’s killer.
