On the evening of August 24, 2014 Travis Bruce Murrow called his friend Melony at 10:00 p.m. to say that he was coming over to see her. He never arrived.

Travis was a man that could be counted on for many things, but mostly for being an incredible father to his children. According to the mother of his children, Christy, Travis called his children constantly. So, when that Monday came, and their oldest son hadn’t heard from Travis, and Travis also hadn’t shown up to work- they were all concerned.

At the time of his disappearance, Travis and Christy were divorced. The time after the divorce was hard on Travis, and he became involved in drugs, but trying to get his life together. According to Christy, when she contacted the Dewey County Sheriff’s department, they didn’t seem to care one way or the other where Travis had gone off to.

On the following Tuesday, Travis’ truck was found to be blocking a pasture opening, and the pasture owners called the Dewey County Sheriff about the issue. The Sheriff’s office then had the truck towed to an impound lot, seemingly without making the connection that it was Travis Murrow’s truck. When Travis’ best friend Scott later found the truck at the impound lot, Scott found the truck to be locked, and also completely out of gas. Scott says it wasn’t out of character for Travis at all to run out of gas, that he routinely had around 1/8th of a tank of gas, and wouldn’t have been surprised at all if Travis had run out of gas the night he had gone missing.

While Dewey County Sheriff’s office hadn’t done much to look for Travis, the same cannot be said for Christy Murrow, Scott Beeson, and Travis’ brother Trent. Scott himself walked up and down the road from where Travis’ truck had been found knocking on doors of houses and talking to people to see if they saw anything; Scott and Travis rode on horseback to clear out abandoned houses and barns for miles around the Seiling area. Scott had also found out that earlier in the day on August 24th, Travis had sold another truck that he owned to a rodeo friend for an undisclosed amount of money. The assumption would be that Travis still had that money on his person when he disappeared as it wasn’t found with his truck.

The last known phone call that Travis made was August 24, 2014 and was around 10:30 p.m. and was once again to his friend Melony, asking her to call him back, stating that his phone was about to die and she should meet him at the Seven Mile, a local bar near Melony’s home. According to Scott, Travis sounded a bit aggravated, but nothing too out of the ordinary.

One thing that we do know is that almost all the stories about what happened to Travis Murrow tend to feature two people: Melony and her on again off again boyfriend Tony. Tony also was an acquaintance of Travis’. Melony’s phone records from that night also feature phone calls from Tony, and she’s admitted to police that she spoke with Tony; Tony’s phone records show him being around the area that Travis’ truck was found on the night Travis went missing. Tony told police, and Scott Beeson, that he had been out looking for his dog that evening.

Meanwhile, Melony’s story about that night has consistently changed. Why that is isn’t known at this time. The strongest theory about what happened to Travis is that he ran out of gas, got out of his truck, locked it, and to start walking to the Seven Mile Bar while making that phone call to Melony asking her to meet him there. Tony, who was reportedly quite unhappy about Melony and Travis’ friendship, then just happened to see Travis walking- and offered him a ride. Another thought is that, maybe Melony happened to know about the money that Travis had from his earlier sale of the truck that day, and told Tony or someone else about it.
