Steven Royce Burroughs was 18 when he disappeared on March 17, 1996 from his family home in Roosevelt, Oklahoma. His family filed a missing persons report

Seven years later, in late 2003, two leg bones and a skull were discovered protruding from the ground in a pond about a quarter mile from the family home.

The remains were transferred to state medical examiner’s office in February 2004. Once examined, samples of DNA to the University of North Texas for mitochondrial DNA testing, OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown said. Two years later, the remains were identified as belonging to Steven. Due to the extensive time that had passed, no cause of death could be determined.

Steven’s family remains adamant that he was murdered and continue the search for answers in his case.

Steven was set to attend Oklahoma University the Fall of 1996. His case remains open and unsolved today.
