Stephen “Steve” Lee Murphy has been missing from Tulsa, Oklahoma since May 2nd, 1976. His daughter, in her search for her father, realized he was missing and filed a missing persons report for him in 2022. She continues to search for any information in regards to her father.

There are a few different stories about Steve’s disappearance. On his NaMus, where he’s listed as # MP93708, it states he told his uncle not to worry about him and walked away and never returned. Steve’s daughter was told through his family that his mother said, “He went into the Marines and escaped with handcuffs on and went AWOL.” The legitimacy of the details of Steve’s mother’s story might be questionable but she was correct that Steve was in the military. His daughter was told by investigators he served in the Marine Corps from June 1975 to February 1984 when he was discharged. Details are still forthcoming on his military service.

Steven was white with brown hair and eyes. He was 5’4-5’7 and 130-180 lbs. He attended A.G. Bell Jr. High from 1970 to 1972 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Will Rogers High in 1975. Steven married Jeanie on June 2nd, 1975. She filed for divorce in 1980. She placed ads through the newspapers in order to divorce Steve and there was never a response. According to investigators there has been no activity on Steve’s SSN but the last year of activity is yet unknown. Steve’s last known address was 7313 E. Newton St. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There is currently one exclusion for Steve in NaMus.
