Leslie Glenn Carpenter’s body was found on October 3, 1980 in Cloudy, Oklahoma. He had been shot to death.

While Leslie had been found in 1980, he would not be identified until 1989, when an insurance inquiry into a stolen pickup truck found in Hugo helped lead to not only his identification, but also the identification of Charlotte Bernice Cook.

Charlotte had been found in November of 1980 25 miles away from Leslie, and was also shot to death. The truck that had been found stolen was owned by Charlotte’s parents. Both Leslie and Charlotte were friends and were from Lufkin, Texas. Authorities believe that the two had been traveling together when they were murdered. Leslie was 17 and Charlotte was 18 when they were murdered. Whether they came to Oklahoma willingly or they were abducted remains unknown.

To date no one has been charged in the murders of either Leslie or Charlotte.
