On December 18th, 1989, Laciona “Tissie” Skorepa (Norton) was found murdered in her home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was 77 at the time.
Laciona’s nephew Edmond Walker asked police for a wellness check when she didn’t answer the door for him at about 10:30 am. Police arrived at 3209 S. Shartel and found Laciona had been murdered. The back door was unlocked and there were no signs of forced entry. It’s believed she was likely murdered sometime December 16th.
Laciona was wealty, estimated to be worth $300,000 – $500,000. Her wealth and who was to inherit is at the heart of the crime. It was reported that Laciona was almost paranoid about her money. She was known to obsessively check her bank balance. Her husband and she had lived an incredibly frugal life and saved almost all of their income, however, they had no children to pass it to. Her husband passed away from cancer in July of 1988.
Soon after her murder the nephew who called in the wellness check tried to deposit cash with dates from the 1930’s to the 1950’s, in total about $30,000. However, he had difficulty depositing it all and only deposited a portion. This led to criminal charges relating to financial crimes later. Empty envelopes, containers, and jars were later found in Laciona’s cellar and garage. It’s believed those all held cash at some point. It’s alleged that Edmond would no longer speak to police after this. Laciona’s murder remains unsolved.
