On June 8th, 2004, a fisherman found the body of a woman floating in Lake Stanley Draper. She was in shallow waters about twenty feet from the shore, and still wearing some clothing items. At the time the body was found, news media touted several theories of missing women that could possibly be the woman found.

Not one of them ever brought up the name Kara Hope Fuller.

About a month later in July 2004, the body would be identified as being that of nineteen year old Kara Hope Fuller. She had been stabbed multiple times before being left in Draper. The biggest theme in the reporting of Kara’s death was that she was a drug addict who engaged heavily in prostitution. One article closes out by stating police did not believe that Kara’s death was linked to other similar circumstanced killings that had been happening at the time in Lawton.

For another year, this information is all that would be told of Kara Fuller. Until January 2005 when her mother gave an interview, and gave details of her daughter’s life. When she was just thirteen Kara’s mother lost custody of her after it came to light that Kara had been sexually abused by her step-father. This happened about ten years after Kara’s toddler sister had been murdered by a previous step-father that had been the father of the toddler. After being taken from her mother, Kara then spent the next five years bouncing around foster homes until she aged out of the system. At which point she moved from Kansas to Oklahoma City. She had only been there about six months when she was murdered.

As far as I can tell- Kara Hope Fuller’s murder remains the only unsolved murder that occured in Oklahoma City in 2004. She deserves justice.
