Janis Cooper Austin Bivins was found deceased in her home on May 6th, 1996 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was a 54-year old mother of five children. Her case remains open and unsolved.

Jimmy Bivins, Janis’s husband, last saw her around 8 am on May 6th when he left for work. Shortly before 5 pm Janis was discovered in her bedroom shot in the chest with her own weapon. Police initially believed her death was a suicide but witnesses came forward and reported seeing a man fleeing from the house located at 512 W. Dawes St. in OKC. The unknown man was seen leaving in a full sized blue truck during the lunch time hour. Many items were found to be missing from the home but there were no signs of forced entry.

Janis was born Janis Cooper Austin in Sulphur, Oklahoma on April 1st, 1942. She grew up in Norman, Oklahoma and attended school there. Janis had been previously married three times. She lost a daughter, Janis Nina Hoffman, on September 8th, 1962.
