Gary Lee Carter, 37-years-old, was found murdered in his Tulsa, Oklahoma home on September 1st, 1982. A phone call from outside Oklahoma led police to Gary’s body. Police contacted the homeowner and he let them into the home, located at 12220 E. 38th Street. He had resided there for about three months. Investigators found Gary on the living room floor. He’d been shot in the head. His car was later found abandoned and burned.

Gary had only been in Tulsa for a short time, having moved from Illinois, for work. He was the vice president of Sweet Things, Inc., a Tulsa clothing company that carried sports and western wear. Gary had a criminal record and had spent time in prison. He was paroled in Illinois in 1978. The charges ranged from DUI to armed robbery.

Police were reluctant to say the homicide was robbery motivated, despite several items being taken from the home. There are no known suspects in Gary’s murder.
