Amy Josephine Liebl, was only 18 years old when she vanished from The Village, Oklahoma on January 17, 1992. Amy was described as bubbly, fun-loving, and easy-going. Her roommate, Larry Faulkenberry, was the last person to see her at their residence on 1821 Westchester Drive.
According to Larry, around midnight, he witnessed Amy entering a room with four black men who were visiting her. When she returned, her eyes were dilated. Larry speculated that she may have suffered a fatal cocaine overdose. However, the circumstances under which he last saw her or whether she left with the men remain unclear.
Amy was known to be a drug user and had been through rehab in the past. This made it challenging for the police to locate and question her friends, most of whom were also involved in drug use.
Both investigators and Amy’s parents doubted that she left willingly. Her driver’s license, cigarettes, and lighter were left behind, but her waterbed sheets and a pink and blue teddy bear-themed security blanket were missing. It was noted that all her shoes and coats remained at home, despite the frigid weather that night.
Authorities suspect that Amy became a victim of foul play and have stated that the perpetrator likely stopped at a convenience store between 1 am and 6 am on the night she disappeared, though they did not provide further details. In the initial years following her disappearance, a team of private investigators assisted in the search, exploring sewer manholes, creeks, and fields, but found no trace of Amy. Some searches extended to Ada, Oklahoma, based on information related to an unnamed suspect familiar with the area. However, it is unclear whether this individual was ever cleared of suspicion.
Approximately a year after Amy vanished, the mother of a 14-year-old girl reported overhearing a man discussing Amy’s murder. According to the conversation, Amy was killed over a disagreement with a date. While the police were initially skeptical due to the delayed report, they attempted to locate the individual, who remains publicly unnamed, and his statements were not fully verified. Another tip came around the same time from someone who claimed that Amy was alive and had paged him within the last few months. However, the police did not consider this tip credible, and they suggested that a friend of Amy’s, who was known to “sniff paint,” might have pretended to be Amy when paging the person.
At the time of her disappearance, Amy held two jobs, but her paychecks were never retrieved. Amy was originally from New Ulm, Minnesota, and she had also lived in Texas before moving to Oklahoma.
Despite extensive investigations, her whereabouts and fate remain unknown. If you have any information about the disappearance of Amy, please contact The Village Police Department at (405) 751-9564.
