Seneca Monae Burrell was last seen December 1st, 2000. Her body was discovered in a creek in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 12th, 2000. Her murder remains unsolved.

Seneca’s body was found by a city worker at 3 pm in a creek at 11100 S. Delaware in Tulsa. She was fully clothed except for shoes and only one sock. Seneca’s body was frozen due to the low temperatures at the time. A matching sock and some balloons were attached to a bridge cable above the creek where her body was found. There were no drag marks found and police believe she was killed elsewhere and dumped in the creek. She was ID’d via fingerprints. Cause of death was found to be manual strangulation and trauma to her head. Seneca had cuts and bruises on her face and there was a scalp laceration from the head trauma.

Suspect William Tyrone Thomas was charged with 1st degree murder but those charges were dropped after two witnesses racanted or changed their stories. Those witnesses reported seeing William and Seneca in a violent encounter that night. William was later charged with drug trafficking and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Seneca was born September 1st, 1977 to her mother Darah Smith. She leaves behind three younger siblings and two daughters. She attended McAlester HS as a teen.
