Darryl Dean Wesley was murdered south of Okemah on October 24th, 1969. He was eighteen years old.

There is very little information available in Darryl’s case. His parents were told that he was found on a dirt road south of Okemah and that he had been run over several times. According to newspaper reports, a nineteen year old male accidentally ran over Darryl, stating he had been lying in the road. It is believed Darryl had been on his way to Wetumka, and it’s unknown whether he had been struck by a vehicle prior to this nineteen year old hitting him, or if something else had happened. No one was ever held accountable for Darryl’s murder.

Darryl was a full blooded member of the Muskogee Creek tribe and was a freshman at Bacone College. Both of his parents have now passed on, but Darryl’s brother is still searching for answers about what happened to his big brother that he never got to know.
