Ajuania “Yonnie” Renee Woodley was found murdered in her home at 1503 E. 51st Street North in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 5th, 1993. She was 18-years-old.
Yonnie left her boyfriend’s house at 12:15 a.m. on December 5th, and that was the last time anyone saw her alive. She was planning to head back to the home she shared with her older sister, who was at her boyfriend’s house for the night. Yonnie had recently graduated from Washington High School and wanting more independence, had moved in with her sister. Her grandmother, Anice Alexander, raised her. It was Anice who discovered Yonnie’s body the morning of December 5th. Yonnie had not shown up for work and that was unlike her. When Anice arrived she found the door closed but unlocked. She found Ajuania Woodley, “Yonnie” on the floor of the living room, blood all around her. They found the cause of death to be stabbing. Ajuania Woodley sustained stab wounds to her neck and chest. It was also discovered that Yonnie had fought her attacker.
Yonnie was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness faith and was a frequent churchgoer. Yonnie saved money for the business administration program at Tulsa Junior College, where she was enrolled for the upcoming spring semester. Ajuania Woodley’s grandmother, Anice, raised her after her father shot and killed her mother, then himself, when she was only three months old. She stopped by Anice’s the night before the murder to pick up some coupons and everything seemed typical with Yonnie. She worked at Turley Warehouse Market at the time.
