On April 29th, 1986 a farmer called authorities about smoke rising from a nearby road. 20 minutes later the Oklahoma Highway Patrol arrived at the scene. There they discovered a burning car embedded in a deserted bridge. The heat from the fire melted the guardrail. The fire burned the body inside beyond recognition. Skid marks indicated the car’s speed was 50 to 60 miles an hour.

The woman inside the car was Aileen Conway of Lawton, Oklahoma. She was a mother and a wife, married to Pat Conway for 33 years. At first investigators thought her death was a horrible accident but the day of the her death when Pat arrived home he found the house in disarray.

Aileen’s purse, glasses, and license were left behind, additionally the ironing board and iron were set up and on. Also the hose was running into the pool in the back. The master tub was full of water. Lastly, the phone was off the hook and the back screen door was left open. Pat knew this was no accident.

Investigators changed her death then from accidental to unexplained. They had arson investigators brought in and they believe the car burned too hot and gasoline may have been used. Additionally, the gas cap from the car was missing.

A church bulletin from Pat and Aileen’s church was found 200 feet from the crash site. It was last see on the car’s dashboard. Also Aileen never drove with her windows down.
